The Oarsmen

What a huge opportunity! I was honored to be put on God of War: Ragnarok where we Valkyries assisted Santa Monica Studio in building out this epic world. I was an environment artist, primarily focused on world building some of these puzzle-y areas located around the frozen Caldera level, as well as handling some sculpts, materials, asset optimization, and other tasks.

The Oarsmen was a nice challenge for its large moving parts and little hidden side areas tucked away here and there. The level designers Farid El-Nemr and Brendon FitzGerald setup some awesome ideas here; it was great working with them to bring their designs to life, under expert guidance of John Palamarchuk and his ExDev team, and of course the daily collaboration with the vibrant and talented team at Valkyrie! Cameron Kleven, artist manager, showed me the ropes here on the project, and Melissa Buffaloe was the kindest, most helpful lead I could ask for! Maria Raducanu, Willow Paquette, and Burr Johnson were all a blast to work with so closely on this stuff-- a lot of this level is or is built-off of their work. Hannibal Hunter hooked us up with a great houdini tool for creating that thick layer of snow sitting atop it all, and Mario Wiechec from SMS is responsible for the fantastic lighting bringing the area together.

That's only the handful of names with whom I worked most closely, but what you experience in the level is the combined efforts of such a huge and talented team that it's impossible to relay all the due credit-- my work was just a tiny tiny part of this epic installment!
